Barricat!

The barricat polices the cats for me.

Ice, our oldest cat has become a finicky eater so he often leaves food in his plate or takes a long time to eat. Mehetabel, our youngest cat is then quite happy to just come along and eat Ice’s food. Unfortunately, she’s become fat from doing that. She’s on a diet now so her interest in Ice’s food has become even more intense. So we have to keep her away from his plate. We can achieve this by putting the plate out of reach but then if Ice decides he wants to eat, he’s out of luck unless one of us humans is around to put the plate down.

Now, I am working at home for the summer so I am caring for and policing the cats during the day. Having grown tired of having to keep an eye on the food situation, I’ve put up a barricat (barricade for cats) to prevent Mehetabel from reaching Ice’s plate, which now stays on the floor. I’ve put up pictures:

Since Ice is old and blind, he no longer roams around the house so the barricat is not a big problem for him. Mehetabel doesn’t like the barricat, however. The first time I put it up, there was a small gap on the side. She tried to pass through it but since she’s too fat, she made the red artwork case fall down, which I heard. I ran just in time to shoo her down the stairs. After I closed the gap with a paper bag full of papers (which will eventually go to recycling), she tried again by pushing on the artwork case. I heard rubbing and ran over. That was the last time she tried anything. Hurray for the barricat!
